Students are introduced to the whole field of the discipline, from personality to social influences on behaviour; from biological bases of behaviour to cognitive process; and from psychopathology to perceptual processes.

Faculty leverage their research experience when teaching basic concepts to students.

  • Students in the UOW programme at ½¿É«µ¼º½ are eligible to transfer to Wollongong campus but subject to separate application and enrolment process.
  • This degree is recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
  • Students will be eligible to apply for student membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
  • Graduates are eligible for Affiliate Membership of the APS.

Further Studies & Career Prospects

Students who graduate with the Bachelor of Psychological Science are eligible to apply for a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours).

  • This programme is an accredited 4th year which is needed to apply for PhD or Masters, and for provisional registration as a psychologist in Australia while graduates undertake supervised practice.
  • ½¿É«µ¼º½ graduates who are accepted into the honours programme in Australia will be offered a discount on the UOW international course fees (excluding service fees and Overseas Student Health Care).

Our graduates are employed in a range of environments including professional practice, academia, school teaching, school counselling, marketing, the public service, and research positions.

Jillian Terese Teo developed an interest in psychology after her ‘A’ levels, when she started volunteering and assisting children with developmental conditions. Awarded an ½¿É«µ¼º½ GE scholarship for her artistic talent (in dance), Jillian took her psychology degree with the University of Wollongong. She then did her Honours year in Australia. Now, Jillian is pursuing her doctoral degree and working as an Assistant Manager & Donor Coordinator at the Brain Bank Singapore.

Maximum 3 times the duration for completion under a standard full-time load, subject to meeting ongoing course progression rules.

There will not be any refund should the student fail to complete the programme within the maximum allowed period.

Students who exceed their candidature period will not be allowed to remain in the programme, unless an extension to the candidature period is approved by the University.

Curriculum

Structure

  • This is a full-time programme that is taught in Singapore by local academics and/or practitioners as well as UOW academics.
  • Average teacher-student ratio is 1:36.
  • The scheduled class include face-to-face lectures and tutorials.
  • Classes are typically in 3-hour blocks: 8:30 – 11:30am, 12noon – 3pm, or 3:30 – 6:30pm.
  • Classes delivered by UOW academics are conducted in an intensive mode in 2 blocks for each module, and occasionally will be held on Saturday.
  • Students typically study 4 modules per semester. Each year comprises of 2 semesters.
  • This is a full-time programme, classes are conducted during the day time and occasionally on Saturday. There is no part-time offering for this programme.
  • Minimum class size to commence: 24 students
  • In the event that the minimum number is not met, the intake may not commence. The student shall be informed within one month before programme commencement.

Assessment & Attendance

  • All teaching and assessment materials are approved by academic staff at UOW and are consistent with the materials used in other locations where the same degrees are delivered. The materials are developed and delivered in a manner in accordance with the relevant accreditation bodies in Australia and Singapore.

  • All assessment may have a minimum achievement requirement necessary to pass the module.
  • Students are expected to pass all modules within the current year of study before being allowed to proceed to the next year of study.
  • The normal load for students is 24 credit points per semester.

    • Local students: 80%
    • International students: 90%

Requirements to Graduate

Students who successfully complete all academic requirements of the programme will be awarded the Bachelor of Psychological Science by the University of Wollongong, Australia.

A degree conferral ceremony will be held in Singapore

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

The following qualifications are accepted: 

  • 3 GCE ‘A’ level /3 H2 passes plus 1 H1 pass with a minimum aggregate of 9.5 points where A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 (for H1 apply half the value)*
  • A 3-year non-psychology diploma from local polytechnic may be able to obtain up to 4 module exemptions with approval from the university
  • A 3-year psychology diploma from recognised polytechnics may be eligible for module exemptions with approval from the University of Wollongong:
    • Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Diploma in Child Psychology & Early Education**
    • Singapore Polytechnic – Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology**
    • Singapore Polytechnic – Diploma in Applied Drama & Psychology**
    • Republic Polytechnic – Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology**
    • Temasek Polytechnic – Diploma in Psychology Studies
    • Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Diploma In Psychology Studies (previously known as Diploma in Psychology & Community Services)**

* Minimum Aggregate scores in the qualifications mentioned are required for entry and will be assessed by UOW. In addition, a student’s performance in the compulsory modules may be considered depending on its specific relevance to the discipline.

** Programme duration will be extended for applicants who are required to undertake additional module(s).

Notes:

  • Exemptions are normally granted automatically to students with relevant background. Block exemptions may be granted to students with relevant diplomas from the local polytechnics and universities.
  • All modules previously studied will be evaluated and compared with the requirements of the student’s programme of study and a block exemption granted where appropriate.
  • Due to variations in diploma programmes within a polytechnic, the same qualifications may receive different credit exemption.
  • To obtain the maximum credit exemption, applicants must have a GPA score of 2.4 or more (out of 4.0). Applicants who have a GPA below 2.4 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Equivalent International Qualifications

English Language Requirements

Applicants with international qualification must meet the University’s English requirement: 

  • IELTS (Academic) overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; or 
  • TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 86 with a minimum score of 18 in Reading & Writing and 17 for Speaking & Listening; or 
  • Pearson (PTE) Academic overall score of 62  with at minimum score of 54 in Reading & Writing and 47 in Listening & Speaking 

Note: IELTS Indicator, TOEFL (iBT) at home test and Pearson (PTE) Academic Online not accepted.

Student Development Fee

Payment applicable to all students embarking on a full-time Diploma or Undergraduate programme at ½¿É«µ¼º½. This fee goes towards activities that will help in students’ personal growth and equip them with functional skills that enhance their employability.

Payable with the programme fees’ first instalment.

International Student Induction Fee

Payable by new full-time international students. This fee covers pre-arrival and arrival support, including activities to enhance the international student learning experience.
