This course will provide you with an advanced understanding about the ageing of individuals and populations, the implications this has for policy, practice and the development of products and services, as well as the demands and challenges this raises. It covers content and skills development in social gerontology, ageing and population studies, dementia studies and health care and practice.

The key competencies you will gain and enhance will be in line with the highest international standards set by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education’s Gerontological Competencies for Undergraduate and Graduate Education, a leading framework for teaching gerontology.

The applied nature of the course and its focus on positive interventions into the experiences of older people will support skills acquisition, employability and career progression in fields related to supporting, researching and intervening in ageing populations and societies.

Structure

The Master of Science Global Ageing is a 2-year part-time, 180-credit programme, where students complete seven 20-credit taught modules and a 40-credit dissertation.

Assessment & Attendance

• Attendance requirement:
  • Local students – 75%
  • International students – 75%

• Assessments:
  • All modules are assessed using a variety of methods including written assignments, online exams, written reports, presentations, research proposals, case studies and discussions
  • Formative assessments (plans or drafts) may be submitted at specified times during each module for feedback. A rubric will be provided for all modules containing the marking criteria.

The assessment schedule is subject to change by the University.

Requirements to Graduate

• Students must successfully complete the taught modules, dissertation and meet the conferral requirements of the programme.
• The degree awarded and the degree certificate is the same as that awarded in the UK.

Accepted Entry Qualifications

• Minimum of a Second Class Honours Bachelor’s degree. Experience of working with older populations in a healthcare, policy or business setting, or research experience with older populations is recommended

Mature candidate route:

• At least 30 years old, with at least 10 years’ work experience and an acceptable qualification below bachelor’s degree. Candidates with appropriate/ relevant work /life experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered on a case‐by case basis and may be subject to an interview.

All other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to interview. All admissions are based on merit and are subject to the approval of the University

English Proficiency Requirement

• IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-skill; or
• TOEFL (iBT): 80 overall with 18 in reading, 23 in writing,19 in listening, 21 in speaking; or
• Pearson Test of English (Academic): 62 overall with 60 in each sub-skill; or
• Minimum C6 pass in English as First Language at GCE ‘O’ Level; or Singapore Integrated Programme Secondary 4 taken within 5 years of the course start date; or
• Bachelor’s degree that was fully taught in the English Medium received within 5 years of the course start date; or
• Equivalent

Application Fee Payable for each application form that is submitted. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The fee will be refunded fully only if the intake does not commence. Unpaid applications will not be processed.

All international applicants will have to travel to Singapore to attend face-to-face sessions. Entry into Singapore should comply with the prevailing Public Health as well as Entry Requirements.
